Subframe removal, in conjuction with control arm Bushings
So I'm going to tackle my control arm bushings tomorrow, and have a few concerns:
1. I read the sub-frame is heavy, we talking like 200lbs heavy or 50lbs heavy?
2. I'm going to have about 5 hours to do this is that enough time?
3. Is this something I can do my self, I know its just alot of bolts but yea.
4. Please list any other concerns or issues you may have had.
5. Kinda wish I didnt have my M7 Sub-Frame stiffener thingy.
6. Wish me luck.
Thanks

1. Probably 200 lbs heavy
2. If your are really lucky and fast
3. Yes -- a person with good mechanical skills can do this.
4. You do not have to lower the sub frame for me it is much easier just to lower it enough to get the bushings off.
5. Removing the M7 should be pretty easy.
6. Good Luck!

I am betting that is not nearly enough time if you haven't done this before. That said, how long does it take you to get the car into Service Mode and have you ever done that before? Answer that and we can best judge the time necessary.
But again, I wouldn't schedule anything for the day and day after you start this job.

PS-While you are there, the inner and outer ball joints are probably shot too. And the sway bar bushings. I also did the oil pan gasket and crank sensor seal while I was there.

update for control arm bushings I put in power flex bushing and I followed this video, I chose to do the sawzall method and found it to be easy, the hardest part was getting the ball joints off.

If you are replacing the control arm bushings there are special tools that make it very easy. If you do not have those get ready for a small workout and extra time.
try to line the subframe back up as close as you can from when you took it out. There are the body dowels on the 2 front bolts but the rear 6 especially can allow for a lot of play. This is so you won t even have to adjust the subframe for front suspension alignment issues.
The Subframe is for sure 200lbs
Do the sway bar bushings with the subframe off. They are cheap and you don t want to pull the subframe again just for those bushings.
