Help!!

when i turn off my mini cooper it continues to run. sounds like a fan is still running underneath it. any suggestions? it killed the batter last night. bought a new battery and installed it and it keeps making the same noise, so i disconnected the battery.

Sounds like the power steering pump/fan. Very common issue. The part needs to be replaced, and it is important that you continue to disconnect the battery when you park the car until you get it replaced - there have been spontaneous engine bay fires due to this issue.

Nail has been hit on the head!

Anyway, you now know where to start looking. but when you say something is still running, there are a few possibilities. If it's the PS pump, contact Way Motor Works or Classic Auto Campus about a replacement. BAA Remanufacturing may be able to rebuild it, but if my memory serves me well, the rebuilds when the pump keeps running may not be that good. If the fan keeps running, I don't know if that is just a bad relay or something in the pump electronics.

Anyway, when you hear stuff like this, try to pinpoint an exact source of the sound so that we can do a better job of steering you to a solution.

It was the power steering pump - it's been replaced and she is running well.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Fantastic, glad you got it all fixed up. Did you also put in a new PS fan?
