Dunlop DSST weather cracking dry rot
Dunlop DSST weather cracking dry rot
Greetings all
All four tires, 23K on tires, August 09 bought car, 2008 tire manu. date.
All tires showing weather cracking / dry rot in between the outer treads only.
Inner treads fine, side walls fine, bringing in to dealer to discuss. Will let you know, but sounds like a wear problem.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks
P.S. the rear tire passenger, is scaloping. Seems that the BMW 5 series had a TSB on this issue with the dunlop DSST.
Sorry wrong group should be gen2

If you got 23K out of a RF IMHO you have done well. Most of them will develop a certain amount of cracking where you described, problem? Not sure because I can't see them and pictures don't do justice. Heavy sidewalls and the tread bead seem to be the "problem". It will be interesting to hear what the dealer has to say.
YMMV

Posted on wrong sight but here is the outcome so far......
Dealer agrees that the tires are dry rotting. but
They will not warranty the tires, because they did not sell the tires!
So dealer sends me to a Dunlop tire retailer, the tire retailer, laughs and says
this happens, and the Dealer is a retailer of Dunlop tires.
In a nut shell
Dealer sold me the car, yet washes its hands of the warranty on the tires that came with the car, unless they were a dealer option installed at the dealership.
