Need help diagnosing overheating
Need help diagnosing overheating
Okay. My '02 Cooper overheated the other day. Turned out the PS fan was stuck and had blown the fuse that controls the radiator fan. Classic early Mini problem. I fixed the fan, bought and installed the grate to protect it and all was well again.
Until yesterday.
Preparing for a trip, I decided to check the coolant overflow tank for leaks. I'd read that was another frequent early Mini issue. I unhooked it...put some sealant along the seam...reinstalled it...and topped off the coolant. A few miles into the trip the car overheated again and I had to be towed home. I did a quick check last night. No coolant leaks. The radiator fan was working. No obvious problems.
Given that I had played with the coolant tank I'm wondering if the overheating could be related. I've read here about air in the system causing problems. Did I introduce air when I disconnected the tank? How would I fix that? What else should I check?
Thanks for the help.

im having similar problems. as a matter of fact the car wont even start anymore. so its on its way to a shop. i would just have either a mini dealer, or a shop diagnose the problem. it could be internal and you would have no way of knowing unless properly equipped.
good luck! as soon as i find out whats wrong with mine maybe i can shoot you more info as to what to look for!
