CVT Issue and code
CVT Issue and code
A friend of mine has a 2005 MC with a CVT in it, 88K....never had any issues with it in the past...last week it did not shift properly and she said it made a noise like something was being drug under the car...it threw an EP code on the dash...she cut the car off, let it sit and it has behaved normally since then...I have an 04 MC with a 5 speed and took my code reader over and all I could get was an E10 code, could not reset it nor was there any additional codes...I have looked thru bentley and can find no reference to this code and I am not sure what to tell her to do...I am aware of the CVT issues and hoping for the best...Any advice would be appreciated...thanks, maurola

NO problems with the CVT at all.....All the services have been done by various dealerships and the car is under a routine maintenace contract with mini...It's past due a service by 2K and this service coming up calls for a tranny fluid change....trying to figure out what we may be facing at the dealership as to what's wrong and how much to fix it
E10 code means your reader is not communicating with the ECU. Reference this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-code-huh.html.
I hate to say it but it sounds terminal to me.......the usual failure mode on these seems to be the belt coming apart, and it sounds like that's what's happening to her - part of the belt broke off, the rest will follow soon and it will quit altogether.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and I hope I'm wrong - cause it's $7-$9K to replace the tranny, depending on who does it.
Take it in for it's service now, you're already 2k overdue......and tell them what it's done before they start work on it - no sense doing a service on the car if you aren't going to keep it.....
