2007 Mini on my way home from SLC yesterday - sporadic screeching noise from dash. Occurred at 70 mph or faster - the faster I went the more pronounced it got. Happened a couple times last year on way back from annual service. This time it happened for 4 hours. Sounds like its coming from behind the speedometer - thought it might be ac fan or cd play, but turning them off had no affect. I am thinking maybe wind related vibration of some sort - when passing a semi the wind gush would trigger the sound most times. Speedometer seems to be working ok, and I am not sure if they use a cable anymore. Took all the fun out of that ride. I did a search, but did not see this mentioned, possibly my searching "screeching" wasn't a good search term.

My dealer ended up replacing my tach and that solved my screech.
