Identifying an oil leak

I have a 2007 Mini Cooper with automatic transmission. Can someone tell me if there should be plugs covering the openings in the pictures below?

Oil is dripping from the bottom opening.

That access hole is supposed to be there. It look's like you have a bad crankshaft seal Could be from a defective seal or from too much oil in the crankcase.

Agree, no plug and you shouldn't have oil leaking out of there...

Thanks for the information.

The dealer confirmed that it is a rear main seal leak, and it will be covered under a warranty repair.
