Please Help me and my lack of car knowledge

After we had the battery replaced in Ellie for the second time, we noticed this wired unconnected. Honestly I have no idea what its to and my husband has no idea (he was taught on cars from before 1980 so me having a MINI is a like speaking chinese to him). Please help me!

I used to have a Cooper and the battery went out, but I never noticed that cable before. It looks like something that would keep things like the clock from resetting everytime you shut the car down. I'd suggest takingbtje battery cover off and looking around for another wire that would connect to it. You might have to pull the battery out. The other end could have fallen down in the engine bay somewhere. Also, there used to be reports of people's battery cable's insulation wearing down underneath the tray. You might want to check that while you're at it. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer, but hope this at least points you in some direction.

the clock is fine so it may be an item under the battery. Ill take a look at it in the morning.
