I have had p2096 fired for close to 2 year after bringing it into the dealer 4-5 times for that one code on different occasions. It was a different fix each time... There is a TSB out there saying that if you get this code it could be anything...

I don't know which light it is, but suctioning a GPS unit to your speedo covers a couple of the lights (this is the best location I've found while travelling). I bet they won't know to make you take the GPS off.

Brilliant !!!!!....I`ve used that trick going to the dragon this year... ...My SES light goes on and off for the past 2 yrs and car runs great...its just getting old , like most of us , it has aches and pains according to the weather.. ...Eventually I will get mine chk`ed it has 120k and something is bound to go wonky soon.

I finally replaced it myself today only to find the shop replaced the cat forward one, which has failed 3 times. the other sensor looks super old, and may be a Bosch type. The one I pulled out was the same os the OEM one I replaced it with.

Those damned O2 sensors again!!

Referring back to my initial post last year: finally, I broke down & purchased two Bosch 'OEM' sensors (#13878) and installed them yesterday. I erased all codes (P0130 & P0136 again...). SES light off. Drove around a while: still off. Drove to work & back today: still off. I'm thinking I liked it. Now I can return to get my reject sticker replaced with a real one! Not so fast!
My wife borrowed the MINI tonight & called me no more than 5 minutes after leaving the house. "why's the SES light on? I thought you'd fixed it!".
So, I guess the Bosch OEM 13878 sensors don't work. Unless......there really is something hiding behind the O2 sensor code that only MINI dealer code readers can see. I'll keep y'all up to date on my progress.

I didn't have to reset anything on mine (2003 r50), the light just went off after the install. There's some insight in this thread as to what else might be causing the code. As I mentioned above, I had one Bosch on my car, and looked ancient compared to the other one (and I think it was the cat-forward sensor).

Those oh so famous O2 sensors....

I cleared the two O2 sensor codes again & 10 miles down the road: the SES light is back on again. I don't have time for this cr*p! I have a reject sticker on the MINI right now & really need to get it taken care of. Does anyone out there have 'good' experience with a shop in the Raynham / Taunton MA area that you can recommend? It may just need proper BMW/MINI software to clear the past codes & maybe the history to keep the SES light off.
Help! Please...!?!

So long as you continue to run the Bosch oxygen sensors, you're going to continue to get the SES code. It does not matter whether you clear the code or the dealer does it. From what I have read in past forum posts, the only OEM reference oxygen sensor that will work is the NTK 25648. Summit Racing has them for $130 each: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NGK-25648/.

Obd p0130

I've had the same experience with Bosch 02 sensor #13878. Replaced the factory 02 myself at 37K with the Bosch item. 35K later, Bosch 02 is TU. Have replaced it with the NTK 02-no problemo.
