Slipping clutch
Slipping clutch
Soooooo... The clutch started slipping pretty badly last week. High revs little acceleration and sort of have to do a mini-rev dump to get the clutch to catch on 1st(I can also do a really slow let off the clutch press in the gas and it'll catch).
Anyways, this is 2003 MC Non-S. Need recommendations for good clutch/kit, and might as well get recommendations for flywheel too. I don't mind "performance", actually would be preferred but don't really care to have a 3 pound lighter setup for $900 extra or something like that.
Thanks!

this is the kit i used and love it over the dual mass original. engine runs better too!

I used the valeo kit too, about 7k miles ago.. works fine. wasn't too expensive.. still uses that crappy plastic composite for the shoulder of the throw-out bearing, mine was SHREDDED (i posted some about my experience in doing this and the write-ups i used). i didn't change the flywheel while i was in there and i kind of regret it.
was the first time doing a clutch myself on ANY car.. it was all of the pain that i had heard it would be and then some. i bet now, though, i could have one done over a weekend, instead of the two weeks of working on it after work that it took me.
biggest pieces of advice:
1) get the stupid tool for popping the shifter cable from it's ball connections. it was $60, but the replacement cable i had to buy was around $130. EDIT: I actually was able to repair the gasket that holds the socket side of the ball joint together with some liquid gasket maker stuff from autozone, it worked like a charm, but i ended up replacing it anyway while i was in there putting in my short shifter.
2) watch out for the A/C line that the shifter arm moves over as you pull the trany away from teh engine.. mine got hooked on it and i almost busted a nut trying to hold that damn thing up while my father-in-law tried to move stuff around so it could be lowered.
good luck.
btw, i've got an '03 R50, too. turned over 120k miles this past weekend.
