Defective Electrical Harness

After 35000 miles the drivers side window started to malfunction. I took it to the dealer to get fixed and was informed that the electrical harness was corroded and they would have to order the part. After a week I was informed the harness is nonexistent in North America and they would have to get the part from Europe. Now I am told they are unable to get the part and don't know when they will be able to get the MINI fixed.

Has anyone had a problem like this?

The "ghost" window issue that many have experienced, where the windows will lower about half way down when the car is left unattended (usually when it is raining) seems to be related this door harness.

My car had that issue and the dealer performed a check for corrosion on both door harnesses, then greased the connectors to keep the corrosion at bay. Seems like there is a big issue with those door wiring harnesses and corrosion.

I am sure they will get the part in soon. If the part never really becomes available I would guess that maybe they could custom build a new harness.

For anyone living in a Northern salty climate, I would recommend greasing these connections (however, I don't know which connectors they are, they could be the door connections for all I know).

Actually got the MC back yesterday. I was told by the service manager they had to stop the production line to get the harness. Whatever that means. Everything is fixed. Just weird the part was so difficult to get.

I wonder if they did a fix for those mid-cycle for 09's or when they started the 10's. If they stopped the line to get you a harness, lets hope its a redesigned part! I am looking at 10's now and I really do like my windows to only open when I direct them to.
