Temps definitely affect the noise as there is more load on the compressor. As the temps have risen lately, it has progressively gotten worse. The fix definitely worked and now the whining sound is gone.

Confirmed the noise matches up with the description in the TSB. Part has been ordered.

They are correct in that the noise is normal. But there is a TSB on this. Search this thread for the tsb number. Bring that to your dealer and ask them to print it out for you.

I drove a loaner 2011 clubman S...it makes the SAME NOISE!! Since mine is fixed now and is extremely quiet, I cannot even hear it turn on.

I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that the 2011 does it exactly as my 2010 did.

If I were you, be persistent and ask them to bring in the MINI service rep.

Just because the TSB says your production date is NOT affected, doesn't mean it's not doing it. It is NOT normal, that is why there is a TSB issued for it.

Had the part installed today. All is well! I can just faintly hear the noise with radio off, AC fan on low, and all windows up. But its 10x's better than it was before.
One would assume this sound dampener is now standard on all new 2011's since the release of this TSB?

Description of Service and Parts on my receipt:
Customer states that there is a loud whining noise coming from under the hood while driving. Customer states that the noise is best heard between RPM 1500-2500. Gets louder as the outside temp increases.
Installed 07 12 9 903 806 :ISA screw Qty: 2
Installed 64 50 9 231 714 :Vibration absorber Qty: 1
Installed Vibration dampener per SIM 64 01 10.

Hey is there a way to purchase this fix(absorber) and install it myself? Or even make one for a couple of dollars?

Mine was "fixed" a couple of months ago but just started making the noise again, even louder than before.

And this issue STILL exists in 2011s??? What the heck is wrong with this company?? So many disappointing issues/design problems with these cars, that never even get fixed in newer models...! Who's running the show at MINI? Is he/she on drugs? Delusional?

Well I to thought it was just a loud AC compressor. Im going to be getting an appointment to have this look at along with the passenger airbag light randomly turning on and off.

Im seriously thinking about doing a lease take over and going back to VW. Ive only had it since January for crying out loud. Just to many odd issues. I owned my 2008 GTI for three years and only had one major mechanical issue...

The TDI Golf is looking better and better.

stay strong.. I came from VW Rabbit 2008.. got bored with it + warranty expiration was getting close.. I still hope I will enjoy my Mini more than just taking to get fixed every month less than 3000 miles and already been 2 times to dealer..

Sometimes I think I should have gone with BASE model instead of S.. maybe it would save me all the trips to get things fixed :/

7300 miles in one year and this is the only problem I have. I am happy with reliability so far.....

Had them do the TSB fix and the whir went away. Had to argue a bit. Funny thing is the 2011 loner they gave me had the whir noise too, but was even worse.

Contacted my dealer about it. Will see if it applies to me or not. Really need it done on the car. Noise is horrible and annoying.

tell them to look at the manufactured date of the car, not the MY. My 2011 was made within the TSBs window so they completed it as asked.

Mine is a 10/10 build date. So it looks like if they are doing it on 2011s mine was before that.
