Losing power, any ideas?

Started a few weeks ago. At idle (red traffic lights) with the AC on car would lose power for a split second and then come right back on. This means the radio would reboot, the lights on the dash would come on etc. The whole time this was going on though the engine would still be running.

Fast forward to tonight. Come around the corner (coasting) to pull into the driveway and it happens again, comes back on and then immediately EVERYTHING shuts off including the engine. I coast into the driveway, turn the ignition off and start the car back up. It starts up fine and I sit there for a minute and nothing happens.

Any ideas? Alternator? I wouldn't think battery because the car starts quickly every time. Any other ideas? I'm going to take the car in because I'm scared s--tless to drive it, but I wanted to see if I could get a ballpark idea of what the problem could be.

PS- when I bought it used in 06 I bought a warranty (the best one they offered) through Mercury. Anyone have any experience with them?

What kind year is it? "S" non S?
More info is always better.....where are you....climate, etc....
Sounds a bit like a loose connection somewhere....I guess they didn't ell you if you got any codes?
It is very reminiscent of what cars once did with some water in the gas...but these days with all the ethanol in fuel, that is pretty rare now (the ethanol tends to absorb the moisture, allowing it to burn, in the same way methanol/iIsopropyl as used as dry-gas).

If everything shuts off including the radio, and your key is still in the ON position, it's gotta be electrical. Most likely a loose ground somewhere.

Oddball electrical issues are usually the result of a failing battery. More than likely, one of the cells has gone bad. Search the forum and I'm sure you will find several similar references. Easiest way to find out is to test it for amp charge.
