The US version has quite a loud 'American' sounding horn. Very surprising since I was expecting the 'meep meep' you hear from small japanese cars.

The horn has authority, not the little beep-beep that the 70's version used. I find it hard not to use -- nice to greet people with 2 little short honks.
Is it possible to like this car more!

While looking into which car to purchace before I settled into the mini I was looking at the PT Cruiser, and I know that they have an aftermarket horn that makes the old school Awooga sound. I thought that was pretty neat, and something maybe to replace the horn in the mini if it was to sissy.

The mini has twin tone horns. Two horns - behind the front bumper - one each side.

The MINI's horn has quite a strong presence. It may not sound like it does from inside (because the car is so well insulated for noise), but people told me they were surprised at how bold it is. One night driving through a mountain tunnel with the sunroof open I layed on the horn and the echo was amazing! It sure isn't a wimpy roadrunner meep-meep!

I agree. Visions of a 70s Buick Electra came to mind when I first heard the horn. I'm not sure I like it yet or not (I'm so confused). Was anyone else hoping for something a little more, er, um, "European"?

If you live in LA... you will use the horn

people just don't know how to drive in this state and you have to let them know you are there --- hence one of the reasons to have an "S"
