I have a magnaflow exhaust and I just want to cut out some of the exhaust noise. Does anyone know the best place to put sound deadening material, and what kind of material. I think a majority of it is coming from the trunk behind the plastic cover on the hatch and under the carpet near the battery. One other question what are those little oval shaped vents with that flimsy foam if you look inside the boot towards the rear of the car? Could sound be reverberating through those?

You can definitely use sound deadening material like Dynamat Extreme or Cascade Audio VB-2 or VB-max on the front doors, under the floor carpet, lining the rear quarter panels and boot, under the rear seats and in the hatchdoor. Problem is the expense is high.

This has been discussed several times before.

Also search for dynamat (many threads)

The oval shaped vents are for air to flow through and out of the rear of the passenger compartment. I wouÖÕaZ<caron>ot cover them up.

I turned on my air conditioning and the recirculation with the rear plastic covering removed and nothing was being drawn through? I filled the area with a dense carpet. I figure that worst case it isn't that big of a deal to remove. Where does the air go?

WOW I just cut out like 90% of the exhaust noise from the magnaflow. I stuffed carpet in the cavity where the sill is in the rear boot, and in the side compartments. Then I removed the plastic that covers the actual hatchback to find small pieces of padding. I left those and filled the cavity in the door with carpet. I couldn't be any happier I have the power of the exhaust and a reduced interior noise. On top of that it was cheap. I just used regular dense carpet from my recent house construction. It is easy to remove if you ever need to also. I still don't know about the vents though. i might end up having to remove that.

Well it sounds like your rear boot area and hatch are now fully "padded". Great job.
Watch your ventilation when you use the AC or defrost and see if it still works as well. You might be blocking the ventilation out ducts in the rear. Hopefully there are other ways for the air to exit.

...In addition, how many pounds weight have you added to your car?

I have noticed that it pressurizes yet I usually run the AC and recirc anyways. Probably a maximum of 10lbs were added and a minimum of 3 lbs which is nothing relative to how quiet my car is now. Even with the windows down much of the drone is cut out.
