Faulty temp sensor?

My wife's 2005 6 spd. base engine coupe is leaving several teaspoons of coolant on the garage floor every couple of days. The fan runs for a while after the car is stopped. While coming back home the other day the temp gauge went as high as it would go but no sputtering or misfire at all. When we pulled into the garage,I popped the hood and was able to put my hand on top of the engine with no problem so it's not overheating. While driving with the engine fully warmed and the heater on high the heater will suddenly start blowing cool air and then after a while will blow hot air again. Am I looking at more than one problem or will a faulty temp sensor cause all of these symtoms? Thanks in advance. Markero.

Alternately blowing hot then cold air is often a sign of the coolant being low (air bubbles in the heater core, so less heat transmitted to the cabin air).

thermostat housing leaking? kinda sounds like my car - the dripping part. Never noticed the temp gauge go off but maybe if the level is down enough?

Definetly sounds like you have an air pocket in the cooling system. When it goes by the sensor it pegs the sensor. More than likely your thermostat is leaking. Replace it with the new version of the thermostat and gasket and bleed it out.
