hey guys/gals..just picked up a 2002 yellow w/blk mini with 90k on her..i love her already,but i have a few questions...there is RUST all along the front lip of the hood/bonnet...no rust anywhere else on the car..you can see it when the hood is closed..it runs along the entire front of the car..the mini is a Michigan car..has anyone else seen this?...any ideas on what would be the best way to fix?...also,how do you get the windows to lower when you un-lock the doors?..thanks in advance,chris

 

Welcome to NAM! your the first hood rust that I have read not sure what to do about that- Maybe the hood was replaced? as for the windows keep holding the unlock button on the key fob the windows will open along with the sun roof. You also can open them by the door lock hold the key to the unlock and the windows will open.

 

That is pretty unusual. The bad news is that once you see rust on a part, it's hard to stop it. The good news is that the bonnet is not rediculously expensive from MINI. Expect to pay about $300 for a new one--and then you'll have to paint it.

 

I just noticed today that every screw holding the front grille on is rusted...

 

It's probably from past owner/s not washing the car during the winter to get the salt off from when they salt the roads.
A common cause from what I understand.
