OEM Lumbar Support is failing

hi guys,

it appears the oem lumbar on the driver side is failing, when leaning on it and and getting up, it makes a metal pop sound, kind of like it's springing back to the shape it should have been, but when you sit on it, it gets depressed in too far. the passenger is fine. is this something i can replace myself? i've seen the write ups for the 07+ oem lumbar install.

thanks

justin.

Haveing done a little work on the seats in the past, I'm afraid it would more than likely involve getting a new seat. :(

So, I looked into this and it looks very simple to replace the spring mat. I'm going to take apart the back of the seat and I want to see if my mat is broken. I can get a new mat from realoem.com for $75 USD. I need my lumbar back!

It's me that did the write-up on installing lumbar support on R56s. Looking at the parts diagram for a Gen 1 Mini, the seats look very similar so I would be surprised if it was any problem to strip the seat that far down. It looks like the Gen 1 has the same awkward hooked clips holding on the back panel of the seat back - releasing those took me ages to work out, though once I'd done it once, it takes less than a second!

Yes Angib, actually, it was your write up that gave me the strength to go ahead and tackle this. Once I found the diagram from realoem.com and compared it to your write up, there is no reason I cannot replace my spring mat. Because I already have lumbar, I don't have to make the holes or fasten the mat in there, I have all of that. In theory, this should be a piece of cake. I'm glad I did not listen to foxtrot!

Thanks again
