I have a 03 MCS with 86K on the clock. I have seen many posts regarding the motor mounts on the redesigned motor mounts ('04 on). I have the earlier style, and there is some superficial cracking at base of my motor mount. I suspect the cracking is cosmetic only, but I am having difficulty with ride harshness, so I wanted to get input on how it looks to others. Does anyone know why it was redesigned?

Also, picture of strut towers, I do not appreciate mushrooming, but let me know if can appreciate any.

Those early motor mounts typically come apart, or get shorter as they get old. So the cracking isn't a problem unless it's broken.

For the mushrooming the correct way to fix it is to replace that upper strut mount and install some strut tower plates. That will fix it and prevent it from happening again.

 

.....as long as you get the strut towers back to flat first.
