Belt Replacement 2005 MCS

My MCS is getting ready to hit 60,000 miles. I am going to replace the engine belt because Mini recommends a belt replacement at 60k, and I need something to do. The Bentley manuel says I need to "special tools" to complete the work. My question is do I need this "special tools"? If not what tools can I use instead? Any suggestions on the brand of belt? My MCS is OEM.

based on your NAM ID you might be in the Chicago area, I have that OEM tool you can borrow.

I found the pully tensioner tool online for $49.95, it was on sale by BMPDesign (bmpdesign.com).

Probably the most worth while tool to buy is the tensioner tool. You can buy it from Outmotoring at a good price and it'll save you time. Otherwise you can do the replacement with regular hand tools. Access thru the RF fender liner is the easiest. I've had good luck with napa/gates belts as an aftermarket replacement. Most of the vendors here carry Continental also which is OEM.

I'd go see AutoXCooper if he will loan the tool and get the belt from him!

If I lived in Chicago I would be spending my free time at his shop! Good on ya AutoXCooper!

Thanks Autoxcoop. I am a Cubs fan born in Chicago and I live in Vegas. If I lived in Chicago I would take you up on your offer.

I'm sure there's someone in the Vegas area with one, but if you need mine PM me and I'll send to a fellow Cubs Fan for the cost shipping the tool.

I thought LVCubs23 = "I Love the Cubs and #23 the most"

LV=Las Vegas, Cubs, 23 for my all time favorite player Ryne Sandberg. My plates on my mini say CUBS 23.

Finally changed my belt today. It was a fairly easy job. It was my first time doing it and it took me about an hour. I plan on replacing my belt from here on out yearly.

Good work. If you have not invested in a Pulley tensioner stop do so at next belt change. I have the Alta version, but there a few out there.
