fuel pump noise?

I searched the forum first but didn't come across my exact situation.

Basically, since new my 09 Mini exhibits some clunking noise from the rear after the car is FULLY warmed up... and sitting in DRIVE at a full stop. Its hard to replicate at will... impossible actually. But the dealer says it is not normal without evening hearing it.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Is it like a slight bump, bump, bump....Only a few then it stops? If so I think this is the tank pressurizing..I could be wrong but my clubman does that sometimes..

Yes sir... a thud like noise. What concerns me is that it is pretty loud. And contrary to the threads about this topic on this forum, mine isn't when its cold. It is after being well warmed up and stopped at a red light or such.

My MC does something like that after I turn it off. Dealer also said it's "normal."

Mine doesn't do it while running or stopped at a traffic light or stop sign but it does do it after I shut down the car. At that point it's the fuel tank depressurizing...

Ive never heard anything like this. The only thing Ive ever heard on my car is the fuel pump priming the system when I unlock it

pointman, I'm wondering how your thumping is doing - my MC just did this yesterday for the first time. Shut off the MINI after my 30 mile commute home and it sounds like I have a hostage in the boot... I'm going to bring it up with my MINI dealer since I'm having driving lights installed next week anyway.

I'd like to know what your dealership said/did if you brought it in. Thanks.

Sorry for the late response. For some reason I didn't receive notification of replies.

I brought the car in several times and basically they did nothing. They swore pump noise is very normal and occurs in all Minis. Clearly that isn't the case.
