unidentified noise

unidentified noise

I have a noise coming from the lower front of the engine that runs constantly even with the engine off. I have to disconnect the battery every time I park the car. Thought it was the PS fan, so I replaced rad fan, which did have a blown resistor, but now that I get under car the PS fan, it's fine. Sounds like it's coming from PS pump, but I have unhooked power to pump and fan, and it is still making the sound. I'm stumped out of my mind.

Ok, I just went back out to hook the electrical power cord back onto top of PS pump, and the pump was blazin hot. Are there 2 electical cables going to pump? Also sound changed when I move the steering wheel. So it sounds like the pump.

pull the fuse for the PS pump! And dont drive it for now.

Sounds like you have a wiring short. The PS Pump harness is probably frayed and now the pump is getting 12v power all the time.....

Just pull the fuse and dont drive it until you can locate the wire issue or it will heat up causing more problems...

Ok, I pulled the fuse, and the noise kept right on going, but the pitch changed anytime I bumped the steering wheel.

Sounds like the wiring harness is all chewed up..they do have a bit of a history of chafing.....double check the fuse you pulled....but I have heard of happening before....sounds like it is time to repair/replace part of your harness. I guess you need to go back to disconnecting the battery till it gets straightened out.
