Tach Rattling

Is it just mine or does the area around the "alarm light" on the tach rattle (vibrating noise)? Should I take it back to the dealer or is this something I have to live with.

Mine buzzed once in a while. Dealer fixed it with a bit of... silicon glue or something.

Do it under warranty. It might not be something that's worth seeing the dealer fore solely, but you can get them to fix it at next service.

I had this problem with the tach rattling somewhere between 2k and 2.5k rpms. One dealer tightened the screws which seemed to work for maybe 500 miles and scratched up the back severely (South Bay MINI) and I ended up taking it to Assael MINI and they replaced it which cured it. After this, the programming got messed up and I had to take it in again to get it fixed, but the tach hasn't ratted in a few thousand miles.

No rattles here.

I thought Tach Rattling was going to be something like Sabre Rattling, but with MINIs.

I think my tach was replaced because I had a prior issue with it. If they do a patchwork fix, I'd say sabotage it somehow (loosen screws or remove tape) and ask for a more permanent fix.

Mine rattles once in a while ... it has a mind of its own so I'll get it checked out the next time I'm at the Stealership!

This is one of my three current rattles, and strangely began occurring after I mentioned a dash rattle (for which the dash was removed) when I came in for my yearly service. Seems I traded one for another.

Rattles from 2.1-2.5k without fail. Even though I'm only about 20 min from my dealer I'll wait to mention it at my next service in 7k.

2. tach rattle
3. passenger airbag light is on even though someone is sitting there.
4. the rear tow hook cap keeps coming off

my car has less than 300 miles.

but i still love the car!!!!

I had this problem too when my car was new, one of the tabs was damaged and the tow hook cover would just dangle there. My MA just took one off a car on the lot and swapped it.

My tach has been rattling... when the car was in for service they took a look at it and said no problem we will fix it right up as part of a 'dash kit' for rattles... it rattled on the way home from the dealer... car is going in for service again soon and I might not be as nice this time...

Yup same problem here. Doesnt happen very often but when it does its bloody annoying. Still need to do the exhaust pipe recall thing, so I'll see if I can get it fixed at the same time.

So I went to the dealer over the weekend... Showed the tech the problem, he said he'll order a new tach and should have it installed this up coming weekend. I'm happy, except for fact that I keep having to drive there for repairs.

A dab of clear silicone fixed mine, can't notice the silicone either if you do it carefully.

I'll try that clear silicone, i first tried wedging a toothpick but that eventually came loose since it's not thick enough

There is some rattling from the tach, but it comes from the internals. But then again, I have a car with Nav which has a different tacho...

We had a rattly tach, the dealer did something involving felt tape to quiet it.

Where did you put the silicone? Did you take the tach off first -OR- only while it is still attached?

On mine, I jammed a piece of camper top foam strip in the front lower part and this made it rattle less for a day and now the rattle is gone. But I noticed the rattle on 90+ deg days and it has only been in the 70s-80s lately, so maybe the heat changes the tolerances between the plastic pieces.
