Oily Air Cleaner Element

I have an 08 Cabrio and I just took out the air cleaner as part of a 10,000 mile service. I started to blow it out and it is soaked with oil. Is this a problem of too much oil in the crankcase? It is just above the full mark on the dipstick. Is it supposed to be this way or ?

Do you have an aftermarket pleated filter?

My '06 MCSc original air filter was coated with oil, which has been confirmed by many as normal.

This is the original pleated paper filter. I've never seen a paper filter with oil on it. Only K & N or gauze types, I thought, had oil on them

My understanding also. I couldn't find anything anywhere about "oily" stock filters.
Guess a call to the dealer would be warranted.

I have a couple of paper Wix filters from NAPA, made by MANN, and there is definitely a thin coating of oil on them. My paper MANN filters for my VW are dry.
