some oily liquid dripping down my bumper!

just bought my 08 MCS a month ago,
there's something dripping down to my bumper (the black part) and leaving marks.
i called the service, they said its because the weather is too hot the substance melted for protection of the car.
Is that true? I am so worried about my mini!
My parking is not covered, is there anyway to avoid that? (Hawaii is super hot ALL THE TIME!!!!)

My sales guy warned me about the same thing that w/b happening for about a month. Said it's cosmoline (sp) and not to worry, just clean it off.

(Off thread -- Had to chuckle when he mentioned cosmoline -- reminded me of being a gullible high schooler some 30 years ago when we used to hear stories of new surplus military Jeeps for sale for $50 "still crated and covered in cosmoline"!!)

It took about 6 months of Hawaii sun to get it all melted away on my Mini. Just be careful, it can permanently stain black plastic parts.

Be thankful that its there, thats your internal corrosion protection. It will stop after a while, and is easily cleaned.

As stated above, Simple Green will clean up the Cosmoline weepage. Check under your bonnet and you will probably find several areas of the yellowish waxy substance left behind. Clean as much up as you can before it drips and runs everywhere. The streaks on your black trim might come out with SG, some of mine were quite stubborn. Black Wow took care of them in the end.

Another tip is to stick cotton ***** in the holes that it is leaking out of an replace them every so often. Just be careful not to put them in any area that gets very hot (like by the turbo) because it can cause a fire.
