I am currently restoring the horn-push assembly on my Morris Cooper MkI. I have procured an original MkI steering wheel and horn-push complete with the "M" logo on the button. However, I just realised that I am missing two important components to complete the job:

1. The contact spring located on the top end of the steering column. This contact spring acts as a retaining spring to keep the horn-push button in an "up" position, so that the circuit is normally open unless the button is pressed.

2. The slip-ring located along the steering column adjacent to the indicator assembly. This slip-ring serves as the electrical contact point between the wiring (which runs through the indicator assembly) to the steering shaft, without having the wires twisting when the steering wheel is turned.

Can anyone advise on where I can get hold of the above two components (new or re-conditioned), or is there any way I can get around this little problem? For instance, I was told that the Motolita steering wheels come with a retaining spring on the horn-push button - does that eliminate the need for the contact spring?

Thanks & regards,

Mark

... i've got the spring and circlip-thingie right here ... but i'm not sure which box the 'ring is in ... PM me!

(edit) ... the MotoLita/Lecarra wheel and hub conversion have a horn push that does away with the original spring/clip/bushing, but the slip ring is still required.

I see you're in Malasia (!?) .... welcome to MCO!
... and shipping may be more than the price of the parts (if you can find 'em), but the regular Mini stores like Mini City Ltd and Mini Mania may have what you want - but searching junkyards even as far as Japan could work too ...

The part numbers look like this:

BCA 4505 for the entire ring assembly
27H 5401 for just the brass Slip Ring
57H 5472 for all the rest on the plastic and spring parts - called the "rotor assy."

Good luck with the search and, if all else fails, i do have all that stuff (used) ...
