2002 R53 power steering reservoir replacement

At my last oil change my mechanic informed me that the power steering reservoir needed to be replaced as it was leaking. About $150 including a new reservoir, clamps and labor. Anyone had something similar done for a repair?

I read one thread that discussed just the clamp having loosened up and a new worm clamp applied took care of the problem. Anyone out there have any been there, done that advice.

I also checked the Bentley manual and they have no instructions for replacement of the reservoir. They show where it is, but nothing else. Anyone with a Haynes manual who can see if they cover replacement information?

There's really not much to it. Take a look at this thread. (You don't have to drop the subframe! Just referencing the pictures in that thread.) First you'll need to remove the supporting bracket. Then remove the clamps on both hoses. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the reservoir is just clamped to the hoses.

wait u mean the resevoir tank?in that case the subframe doesnt need to be dropped...if the hoses and the tank have to be replaced then u dont have to drop it....besides if u do have to drop it u dont have to disconnect the hoses from the pump...just undo the tank and carefully thread it out and it stays connected

Yes, as stated in my original post, I just used that thread to reference the pictures. The subframe does NOT need to be dropped. Sorry if I caused alarm!

Thanks for the reply. Seeing the reservoir out with the subframe actually helps to understand how it is attached. I will have to check it out on the car to see if I have enough room to remove the reservoir and get clamps on those hoses. My estimate lists the reservoir as needing to be replaced which makes me curious as to what is wrong with it. Time for a close inspection and/or a phone call to the mechanic.
