After washing the car today, My hatchback seems to only work sporadically, and upon occasion, without hitting any of the buttons on the keyfob or touching the car in anyway, the hatch will pop open when parked. Doesnt happen while underway since the car automatically locks everything. Has anybody heard of the handle shorting out after getting wet? I dont know how it would have gotten wet, I have washed the car 50 times before and never had any issue what-so-ever...

Does anybody know if the handle electronic piece can be ordered and installed as a DIY? It looks pretty straight forward, but I am not sure if it would need to be reprogrammed for the car locks or what not...

I need help as I am selling the car and this will hold up the sale if not taken care of ASAP. I will be calling my stealership Monday for advice as well, but I always like to check NAM first...

Just take the four Torx head screws out of the handle, you can get at them underneath the handle. Then remove the handle and unplug the wiring harness, but make sure the wiring harness doesnt retract back into the hatch. Then take the whole handle assembly inside and dry it next to a space heater or something. When it is thoroughly dry soak the foam gasket thats built into it with Dielectric Grease and then go back out and put it back on the car. This should solve the problem, its the exact same issue I had.
