Misfire symptom and solution
Hi all,
I just thought I'd share something I came across:
My symptoms were a misfire first time I'd drive my car in the morning. The colder, the worse it was, and the more I put my foot into it, the worse it was. The codes were P0300 (random misfire) and P0301 (misfire, cylinder #1) more than anything else....
The problem turned out to be chaffed spark plug wires that was compramising the insulation. I had aftermarket wires on that don't bend like the stockers, and when combined with the GP IC I run, there were a few points that had worn on the woven insulation. When I inspected the rest, two other wires were showing signs of wear as well.
While this isn't the only source of misfires I've come across, it's one more thing to look at, especially if you have larger diameter after market wires that don't bend that well.
