According to realoem.com the "848" is the one with the LSD...
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...14&hg=23&fg=05
...I don't work today...so I can't confirm it, but realoem is usually pretty accurate.

Thanks Partsman, returning the tranny is not an option for me so i have to get all the ducks in a row. This is quite confusing but i'm satisfied i have the right #'s for the 07/04 box and beyond according to realoem. Here's some more fun i see a cooper S box listed on Ebay under 5000 miles theres photos one has the plate on the housing with 2300150429507 running a part # search on realoen says it dont exist, this gets more confusing by the minit.Partsman see if you can confirm the #'s for me,i'm not really keen on shipping wrong box overseas,Disaster

Make sure the label prefix says BKE or BKL(lsd diff). NOT BKD(pre facelift).

The part number you posted...23 00 1 504 295 seems to be a good number for a 6-speed, but it doesn't go in my ETK so I can get more info.
It also appears to be a new unit, as there is no core charge.

The "849" is the remanufactured, later gearbox with the lower gears(higher numerically) without LSD...
The "848" is the same gearbox, also remanufactured with LSD.

Partsman i'm still confused, this afternoon a breakers yard gave me a vin#TD99298 this leads me right to my part#23007574849 or 23007574848 = LSD on realoem.com,then emails me with a part#23007568718 taken from the box, that part# dont exist on realoem, thats the second breaker that has pulled non exsistant # claiming the car to be 05-06,all i'm trying to do is get the vin and part# to correspond before shipping overseas WTF.Those two part # i have are for a 07/04-11/06 build Getrag 6 speed the correct box for a cooper swap.Yes i have passed on the BKE and BKL info, this aint easy.

Lets forget about who posted what sorry you are of a big help to me,looked at that photo again and it has a BKD so it's the wrong one ,what i'm reading into your post is the two Part# i have are correct but remanufactured trannys and therefore not likley to be found in vehicles unless they had a replacement tranny?therefore the part# of the original gearbox might not correspond???

This VIN number is from a MCS with a production date of 2/2005...and has a 6-speed with LSD.

Right.
The part number on the original gear box in the car will have a different part number than the reman one.

Yea, we took a good hammerin' from the snow...and I tell ya, I have had enough already! Good thing I have an Explorer to drive, so I don't have to take the MINI out.

Congrats on the baby!
My little man will be 2 in April...he's gonna be beating up his brother soon and he's 7.

Just when i thought we had it all figured out, with some curoisity i went to the local dealer and had them run the vin#Friday.BMW claims this car to be built in 12/03 and Realoem claims it to be 02/05.I cant make this purchase until we get to the bottom of this confusion.

Ask them to remove flywheel housing and count the teeth on the crown wheel gear if you're worried. 89 teeth is a facelift and 85 teeth is pre-facelift. BKE and/or BKL would indicate it's got a LSD. If they pop the cover they'll be able to see if it's an open diff or a lsd too.

I am i total agreement with you guys about the correct part# and model BKE - BKL for 02/05.But where the hell does BMW Barbados come up with 12/03 build,i have a copy of this printout.Terry the workshop manager says it could be because of different region.Partsman could you please run that vin when u get a chance if you hav'nt already done so.They are putting the car on the hoist tomorrow to see if theres a BKE - BKL.Thanks Peter
