Cooling fan running after shutdown

Hey all,

My 2007 S has it's cooling fan running up to 10 minutes after engine shutdown. It seem to only do it when below freezing. The car is only being driven a short distance. I'm afraid it's running down the battery. Clloant level is fine and the car is not overheating. I can't get it looked at until March 3. Anyone having the same issue in cold weather?

Just experienced this with an 2006 MCS. Any updates (your experience) or others? Please help. Thanks.

How is the car being driven right before being parked? Are you allowing the car to warm up, then driving it? It is a standard feature of most modern cars to run the fan on the car to cool the engine down to an acceptable temp then shut off. But it usually happens after the car has warmed up and then not driven at a fast speed allowing the temp to increase since there is no air flowing over the radiator since the car isnt being driven or not driven fast. There could be something wrong with the temp sensor giving a false reading but nothing you have posted seems to indicate that, especially if the fan doesnt come on after driving at a moderate or fast rate of speed for awhile then shutting the car off. Under normal operation the battery wont be run down enough to cause any problems but if you are only driving the car for short distances for a long period of time you might run into a problem with the battery running down since you arent driving it enough to put a good charge on the battery. Make sense?

This is a built-in feature. You'll also hear fluid being circulated around to cool down the turbo over time (not applicable to the 2006).

When I get home from work (20 mile drive) and I had the A/C running, the fan will run about 10 seconds. If I didn't run the A/C it usually doesn't run at all when I shut down the engine. The outside temp here is usually about 80 degrees. If yours runs that long every time, I think you have a problem.

The dealer looked at it and couldn't find any problem. The problem has not reappeared. This is only happening in sub freezing weather and now the temps are on the rise.
