:: stumble F-I-X-E-D !!
^ I'm as cheesed off as the next guy about this stumble problem, but to give BMW its due, "the next few weeks" may BE as soon as possible. Lord knows, they've tried to fix this before and have released bad updates/patches...so if they need to take a few more weeks this time around, I'd give them the time.
LET'S JUST GET IT RIGHT this time, ok BMW???!!!
LET'S JUST GET IT RIGHT this time, ok BMW???!!!
I live in suburban Philadelphia. At 3:15 this afternoon while I was in my Mini, I received a call from my service manager that a BMW technician was there and if I could come right over they could load the stumble fix software for me. I was there in five minutes, had to wait for them to finish doing it to another car and by 3:55 I was driving away absolutely, totally, completely stumble FREE. Two of the sales people also had it done today with the same result. The fix is out there.........it's just a matter of time until you get a call from your dealer. Sounds like some have it and some don't, but it WILL come. I am now a believer!

I didn't get the first stumble of the day this morning as I rounded the first corner of my garage letting my foot off the clutch. This is the first time in 6 months that it didn't occur. I kept expecting it to happen, but alas, I think the latest software just might do the trick. Also, I noticed that my mileage is better even though I driving the heck out of it trying to get it to stumble. It really is true, when you feel this car pulling the way it should in all gears, the smile comes right back to your face.

Good to know it wasn't a fluke....count me in as a happy, stumble free MINI driver...still going strong after nearly three weeks

Been thinking I might not even need the fix the last few days. The morning temperatures here in SoCal have dropped quite a bit and with it the performance of my Mini has risen.

I can assure you that the change in my car's driveability is due to the fix and not the cooler temperatures. My car's stumble began back in April of this year when the temps were about the same as they are now.

This is all so happy and promising and joyful....
OutMotoring... it's VERY good to hear that you're still stumble free after 3 weeks. All the other temp. fixes have worn off by then. Very good indeed.
YAY!

I never had the yo-yo........just the stumble and the bog. I don't get the stumble at all any more, including the first start of the day. The dealer doesn't have the software to keep. The technician has it in his possession and afterward he was
heading to a dealership in Maryland. He said he would be back to Philly after appointments were made for motorers with the worst problems.
The fix is out there......I am now a believer!

I inquired about the latest stumble news, and here is the e-mail I got from my service manager:
Version 36 is not available til december, but we can send your control unit to N.J. and have them install what eventially will become version 36. The car will be down for three days due to fedexing the part back & forth. Call me to schedule if you decide that you can't wait any longer.
I am not in a hurry so I'm waiting until December. If they don't have the fix to the dealer by early Dec, I will have them ship the ECU off for reprogramming.

You're right........the new software hasn't been sent to the dealers. The upload of v36 will most likely be done by a travelling technician who keeps it in his possession........read back a few entries........mine was. It has been 12 days for me
and it feels like this is the real thing. Smoooooth!!! Nothing to fear.
It sounds like the dealers won't have their own copies until Dec. and that either
the 'tt' or sending your ECU to NJ are the only possibilities before then. You should
count yourself among the lucky ones if your stumble is fixed this early.
In any event, I'd predict that virtually everyone's nightmare will be gone by the new
year. You'll be seeing alot of Mini owners driving around with unusually delightful grins on their faces.......and know why.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

>>Herby did you go to Main Line or Otto's?
According to this post on Bridger.us/MINI, the stumble fix they are loading now may not even make it into version 36 of the software. That's why they can't leave it.

Bridger.us/MINI Stumble Update
Took delivery of my '04 MCS in mid October (9/26 build). After 750 miles I have yet to notice the stumble. Perhaps the "travelling technician show" hit the VPC as a priority, thus the '04s will not need the stumble portion of V.36?
However, I *DO* have the yo-yo, which I feel as a transient hesitition between 2500 and 3500 rpms. So if the stumble was fixed via the VPC for incoming '04s, they have done nothing for the yo-yo.
Anyone heard of an '04 with the stumble?

I just recieved a special software update from a field tech for my 03 S. Drove home about 10 miles and DO NOT notice a change for the better. I think I still have the stumble from start and the jerk at deceleration in 2nd at 2000 rpm. What the heck is this software suppose to do? If this is the fix they're talking about so far I haven't noticed it. I will drive it for serveral more days and judge then but so far not amused. Gosh if I don't have a fix this time around I think I need to talk to them about buy back.

Picked up my 2004 MCS last week. No stumble, but I do have the optional Yo-Yo. I hope they have a fix before my first service. Otherwise the only problem is a persistent giggling from the driver while driving.

Hey, mbur! Good to see you from the MINI ON. Same thing with me (including the grin!). After 800 miles, yo-yo hasn't gotten any better or worse, for that matter.

This thread pisses me off. I've been driving this thing around all year and never once has it run any better than a '72 Pinto with 7 burnt valves. So a few months ago MINI finally decided to address the issue that their cars run like crap, they drag their feet and slowly get around to maybe sorta tuning the engine half-way correctly and then they throw the "fix" in some closet somewhere and it never even makes it out to any dealerships. What gives? Where the hell is that shifty mini rep miniusa (or is it [b]northamericanmotoring[b] now)? Shouldn't they at least try to solve this problem? If they have a half-*** solution available, shouldn't they at least *try* to distribute it? My stumble sure isn't fixed and I would appreciate the titile of the thread being changed to "stumble F-U-C.." Well, you get the idea.
I must say that I am getting very tired of the "New few weeks" excuse.
When I read about the fix, I made an appointment and took my car in
to have the ECU shipped and reflashed. The tech at MINI North Scottsdale talked me out of it because the release would be there in the next couple weeks. Shipping the ECU would take a week, and no loaner car. So I decided to wait.
I called him the next week. He told me "By Halloween".
It was just a trick, not treat! But just a couple more weeks.
Here we are about 3 weeks into November, still nothing.
Talked to him on Friday. A MINI tech was going to be in Phoenix this week.
He was going to call me. BUt did he? What do you think?
I am willing to bet that we will not see this fix until 2004.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt when it came out.
They sure let me down.
