Ticking noise at idle when clutch is out
Ticking noise at idle when clutch is out
Ticking noise when my car is idling and the clutch is NOT depressed. Wheb I depress the clutch, the ticking noise stops.
Any ideas out there

It is the sound of the dual-mass flywheel. Some say it's bad, I say it is normal. It has never caused any damage, and I have never heard a Mini without that particular sound. Your front end noise may be the brake heat shield vibrating against the rotor. Does it occur when you rev the engine slightly (as if starting to move) or only once you start rolling at low speed?
As a side note, you could post all of your questions in one thread to make it easier to find all the answers in one place

No, just when I get moving at a slow speed, mostly when I am making a left turn onto the highway and then even after the engine warms it makes that sound when from a dead stop and then picking up speed. and heading out straight ahead.

Flywheel problem. I had mine replaced under warranty (Including the clutch kit) about a month or so ago. MINI has a newly revised dual mass flywheel part number with better vibration dampening. Another problem with the older flywheels is glazing which in turn causes the "Chewbacca" noise so many others have talked about in this forums.
There is a TSB out for this problem and MINI handles this on a customer complaint basis. Do a search for flywheel TSB as I have posted the information and contents of said TSB in several discussion threads.
PS: I hope you are still under warranty as this is a 9-10 hour job ($2,500 repair bill) at dealer labor rates.

I had the chewbacca noise... ticking noise stops when you engage the clutch, and then starts again after you let it out. long story short, the dealer paid for a new transmission, clutch and flywheel at a cost over $5,000. this is definitely something that should have been recalled.
