Transmission Gone 21K Beware!
Today I was inofrmed that my transmission has to be replaced. Started out in 1st gear with slight catch at start froma stop felt like front wheels spun slightly, turned into catastrophic failure. Help Mini Roadside assistance. Im not the 1st beware of the slip. Dealer was prompt and supportive, I worry about having to replace the tranny so early.
He is got a 5-speed Cooper fitted with the Midland Gears transmission unit. This tranny seem to be a mixed bag when it comes to reliability. No wonder MINI has decided to switch over to a 5-speed Getrag sourced box.
same thing happened to me at 3K miles (mine's a 02/02 build).
there are LOTS of threads on thsi topic, as it happens quite often. The dealer's are fairly prompt, and my tranny has worked just fine.

Actually that is a great time to have your transmission self-destruct! Just make sure to destroy the new one before the 50k warranty runs out and you will have a third fresh one installed before the warranty goes out the window.
Sorry that you are without your MINI until it is replaced though! :???:
