These have gotten cheaper, I just ordered the set from www.getbmwparts.com (Tischer) for ~$80 shipped.

[EDIT] Tischer says these are NLA, but Samstag Sales has them for $10 more.

I have the factory pins.
If you want to lease them, that's cool.

I have some steel bar that I can make a set from, and a friend has offered access to his lathe. Can anyone with the factory tool post the lengths of the pins?

Thanks for your time.

I ended up using long 8x1.25 bolts to slide the assembly out and a piece of 2x4 wedged behind the assembly to keep it pushed out. My local hardware store only had up to 90mm long 8mm bolts. Longer bolts would be better. This quick/cheap setup worked fine for the rare times I need to pull the front forward.

Those are cool and quite well done. I just used the M8x100 bolts in the same holes that the BMW pins are supposed to go in and those holes are reinforced. I hadn't thought about having to hold the front end out as opposed to just letting it sort of sit wherever it lands on the bolts. A nut and washer could be used to do that.

I can get the M8x100 bolts at a local bolt store (Tacoma Screw) for really cheap. I sent a set to a fellow NAM member in the Florida Keys who had limited access to hardware, and postage cost more than the bolts.

Anybody who needs a set of these let me know via PM (before you need them) and I'll get you some. If you want to try the nuts and washers trick I'll get those as well.

Val

I was researching this, and stumbled onto the thread. My question is, if I make the extensions, is it better to make them longer than 100mm, or is it not a real advantage in getting greater access? Thanks

If you need more space than that then you're probably going to be taking the MFE off completely in my experience. You can't get beyond the ~100mm extensions with the radiator hose connected.

Stinch, anyheck,

That was exactly what I wanted to know!

Thanks to both of you for the information.

I like the shoulder bolt idea.
