Looking for service alternatives in the L.A. Area

I'm in Shock My 05 Cooper S with 32,500 Mi -
The front brakes went metal to metal with no warning.

The bill at the dealer (So. Bay Mini) was
Front rotors, pads & rear pads $1200
Allignment & tire rotation $ 400

Since the car is out of free maintenance now
I'm looking for lower cost alternatives
in the Los Angeles Area. Any suggestions???

That price is insane. Don't go to the dealer for any service. You can give Danny @ MiniCorsa a call. He will take care of you. Great service and his prices are great.

btw welcome to NAM.

Great, Thanks.

I'll get in contact with them, and pass his info on to my other Mini owner friends.

Ok dude, that is insane. Really good front pads like EBC green stuff would run you like 80$ on Moss MINI. New brake pad sensor is about 15$ at Moss MINI. All rotors are about the same and you can pick up some at Autozone or Advance auto parts for like 40$ a piece. That's 80$. Order your own parts, and ask friends and family for mechanics and get a price quote for installation. Rear pads are even cheaper. $1200... "da loco!"

Also tire rotation you can do yourself with jack stands and a jack. There's places that I've seen that offer alignments for 100$.

Good luck.

Second Coouuper S Recommendation

sitcur

I second Coouuper S's recommendation call Danny "D" at MiniCorsa. I recommended him to my neighbor when his steering pump went bad and the dealership's price was ridiculous so I recommended him to contact Danny "D" at MiniCorsa and sure enough the price of the OEM part was signifcantly cheaper and so was the labor cost and he completed everything in couple hours not overnight like the dealership requested. My neighbor thanked me for the recommendation.

Just buy your own parts and spend the hour and a half it would take to go slow and install the brakes and rotate your tires yourself. Great learning experience and an easy way to save some scratch. Take it to an alignment shop and have them set the alignment, you'll get a better price and warranty from them. It's just a toe set anyways, the most basic type of alignment.

After hearing so many great things about Danny and his shop, I finally went there last Friday (1/9) and I was impressed with his straight forward approach and how quickly he can do his quality work. He did my front rotors, pads, bedded the pads and an oil change in under 40 minutes. I thought I was in the pits at LeMans. I'll be going back to him, no doubt.

seriously, you make the drive from Texas because of all the wide open stretches of the I-10 that exist! and b/c you don't have any mountain twisties in Texas!!!! and i'm sure Danny is the added bonus!

Texas Hill Country has some great driving roads and we do have the highest US legal limit, 80 MPH, on I-10 from Abeline to El Paso.
