Bent Axel

I am about to cry. My 2008 mini cooper s just met one of DC's worst pot holes, and didn't make it. headache from hitting the ceiling, broken aftermarket rim, and bent axle (or something).... the wheel is sitting about 2" further back than the other front tire.

Is this under warranty, or maybe under new car full coverage insurance? If not, how bad will fixing it cost?

went to my tire dealer, who replaced the rim for free, and no damage to the tire!!!! now just got to figure out how to get it to the mini dealer... which is AN HOUR AWAY on a questionable front axle.

Good luck getting that fixed. I don't think warranty will cover it but I think insurance should if you have comprehensive or collision coverage.

Ouch

I agree with uzun, after getting an estimate from the MINI dealership, call your insurance company.

You can call 311(Fenty's call center) and they'll direct you to the right department for filing a claim with the city.BTW where is this pothole?

No warranty coverage, I'm pretty sure. But you can have the car towed with MINI Roadside. Definitely call the city about the pot-hole.

This pothole isn't the same one I nailed the other night underneath the Capitol in the tunnel is it?

The axles on the first gen run around $400-$600 each. The drivers side is cheaper than the passenger side. Not sure if this is the same for the R56's. Installing them isn't a big deal..hopefully that's all it is.

Don't accept a rebuilt axle if you're offered one. I've been there, and would not recommend it..you'll end up paying twice..for the rebuilt and new ones when they fail shortly afterwards.

I don't think you have a bent axle, but a bent control arm. Simpler, easier to fix, just be sure to get an alignment once it's fixed.

This will not be covered by you Warranty, but you can get it covered by your Insurance. I kid brought a 04 MINI into the Dealership the other day, and the bill was close to $5000.00. I hope that yours will be much less!

sounds like your hub bearing got chowdered; axle moves with suspension, if th wheel broke, the hub took alot of abuse too.

Bummer dude. Like OXYBLUECOOP asked, where's this *&^@ pothole so the rest of us can try to avoid it?
+1 on getting Fenty to fix it (and pay for your damage!)

Falls Church

If driving in falls church 66 west bound... off ramp on to 7. More of a ledge than a pot hole, but I hit the steep side instead of taking the inside, and hit is too fast.... just alway take it to the right.

the side i hit.... the asphalt that they added to "smooth it out" was chipped off, I think.... it was raining.

USAA insurance is great, by the way... They and Mini are doing everything possible to get me back like new, and for as little out of my pocket as possible. Gotta Love military family discounts!!

should have may car back on the road mid next week... till then a damn pontiac g6.

some one tell them that an all red lit interior is kinda creepy and 90's fast and furious...

and it drives like a boat.... for a small sedan, or I was just spoiled with my baby.

Also Debbie, from MoS, told me I did more damage than I thought.... much more. USAA apporved all OEM parts and is picking up the tab.

Here in BC, pothole damage counts as a "single-vehicle collision" (their reasoning being that you should have been able to avoid it).

This sucks, because you hit a pothole and lose your perfect driving record. :( Thus allowing them to raise your premium.
