Wing mirror replacement

Well, a while ago, our Mini was vandalized and our passenger side wing mirror was ripped off the car. I've seen several for sale at online stores and on ebay, but they all say "non-folding". Does that mean that they won't fold in like the original mirror did?

The link below is one I'm talking about. It looks exactly like the original mirror, but it says "non-folding" and direct replacement. What gives?

Not 100% but 99% sure but the ad may mean that the mirror will not power fold for Europe. All US mirrors should turn on the base, some kind of safety thing.

Ok, cool. I didn't know the European Minis' mirrors were power folding.

Yep, that just means non power folding.
Hey, you don't have the wiring harness for the wrecked mirror, do you? I've been looking for one for a project (I installed power folding mirrors, but the harness is incompatible.)

I don't think so. I haven't taken the door apart yet, but there weren't any wires hanging out of the hole when we found the car without said wing mirror. I'm thinking whoever did it, broke off the mirror, saw that it was still attached and just pulled as hard as he could.

I just hope the connector in the door or wherever isn't too badly mangled, that way the power mirror function will still work.

This is what you should see in the door.

If the wires tore on the door side, you may have to source a new door side connector.

Isn't a wing mirror mounted way forward on one of the fenders? Not on the door. My 67 Jag 420 I bought in England had wing mirrors. I think it was a law back then that rear view mirrors had to be viewed through the windshield where the windshield wiper did it sweep.

Hmmmm, so yeah. I definitely don't see that harness. I'm curious as to how far back the damage goes. Is there another connector in the door? or does that one harness run all the way back into the car?

I know we've got a picture of it, I'll see if I can find it.

I'm sure there are instructions on here somewhere to remove the door panel. I think that will be the first thing on the agenda to determine the extent of the carnage.

Get it? car-nage? Ha! Thanks everyone, don't forget to tip your waitress. I'll be here all week.

Thanks for the guidance. It's greatly appreciated.

Door harness is one piece.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...21&hg=61&fg=05

Door is easy enough - three screws in the oval panel, one behind the reflector on the upper right, then just tug on the bottom and it will come loose. Note that the upper clips pull straight out.

Here's a tip - keep your day job.
