Stuck power folding mirrors

picked up my new 09 mini cooper s 2 weeks ago. It is now on a flatbed tow truck going back to the dealer. The mirrors are folded in the up position so the car can't be driven.Called the dealer and he had me manually pull the mirrors back into position. They then electrically turned themselves back to the folded position!!!!! No matter what i do the go back to the folded position!!! Really needed the car this weekend to travel, but i'll have to take my jeep instead(99 wrangler 90'000 mls. and never breaks down). When i find out what the dealer did to fix problem I'll let u know. Anyone have this kind of problem? Makes the car IMPOSSIBLE to drive! !!!!

I mean, legally you need to have them, but it's far from impossible to drive without them. I drive up to our summer-house every year without sight from the rear-view due to being obstructed and I've driven cars with the side mirrors broken. Just stick your head out the window and hope nobody's passing really close. I've still got my head on. I think... I mean, how far away is your dealership?

I would break out a meter and check out the switch to see if your switch for your power windows has gone bad or disconnect one of the leads from the switch terminal and see if your windows still stay in the up position. Just a thought...

I would think there would be a fuse you could pull so the mirrors stay out and don't fold up again... No?

Yes, it would be fuse F20 or the second down from the top in the middle row.

See This Thread.

Yes and it's too bad that you lost these days of enjoyment with your new MINI!

It will be very worthwhile to post what caused the problem,
all we were offering might provide a future idea to save someone a flatbed trip.

Surprising that your dealer would not have thought to suggest somthing beyond the manual pull...

Hope you are soon back Motoring your MINI!

Yeah, I'm surprised the dealer didn't think of the fuse. But then again, some of the things I've heard dealers tell customers makes me wonder. Like the one with power steering failure, they told him "check your power steering fluid level"... On an all electric power steering system?? Oh well, live and learn or read up on NAM !!!

well it's monday morning, called the dealer and was told it's either rusted connections or a bad switch. Sounds to me like they didn't even look at it yet. The cars 2 weeks old and they tell me it's corroded connections. I find that hard to believe, the switch is INSIDE the car not even exposed to the elements. Oh well, glad it's nothing serious.
