Incorrect Diagnosis by Service Technician

Hi - I'm having an issue with my driver's side door window not dropping/dipping low enough when you open the door. It moves about 1-2 mm not the usual 1/2 inch.

The passenger side is working fine.

I've attempted to do the windows reinitialize thing and it still doesn't fix the issue. I even took it to a dealer where they had it sit there for 3 days before looking at it, and they did the usual "Could not recreate the problem".

I have continously tried to explain to them that this is not "Up to Spec" - it has to drop down sufficiently so that when you close it and the window goes back up, it goes in nice and snug into the door seal.

Anyone know what is the best way to deal with this issue? I feel BMW are doing their typical brush the issue off as it isn't major enough for them to deal with. What recourse do I have?

You have to stand there and point out the problem while they witness it.

window issues are very common in the BMW world, from JustaCooper to 7-series. vehicle cost is no boundary. take it back and tell them you believe it's a faulty motor/regulator, and like the pp said, stand there until they see it. they are stonewalling you.

Man some of these MINI SAs are terrible

I was just gonna say that. it should be a quick fix with the gt1 or dismachine. if that doesn't do then you may need to get the frm(footwell module) reprogrammed and the whole vehicle encoded. that will take longer...

but i'm betting on the initialization with the gt1 or dis.

Thanks guys for your repsonses. I think it might be more than just a re-initializing as they claimed to have done that and also told me how to do it if it reoccurs.

After I picked it up from the dealer I was told "Oh don't worry you have plenty of warranty left...just keep an eye on it and bring it back in the Spring".

You are exactly right - they are stonewalling me and I'm really p**sed off as to how they just blow these issues off. What happened to "the customer is always right"?

I've already booked it back in for a service and have organised a MINI loaner vehicle. I'll do exactly what you said and stand there and show them exactly what the issue is...might even film the whole thing for evidence in case they pull any other b.s.

Will keep you guys updated. I really loved my MINI until this happened...just poor customer service from service advisors making you think you are making stuff up........

Sounds like you should indeed film it. That's a good idea. Film the normal side too.

Make sure you give pissed off remarks in your "How was your MINI visit?" dealership feedback program!

I would expect good rather than bad. I think looking at the glass half full is far more productive than half empty.

It may not be your fault that they have the problem to start with, but to tell the owner

1. "Could not recreate the problem" - Psychout
2. "Oh don't worry you have plenty of warranty left...just keep an eye on it and bring it back in the Spring" - Psychout

is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

I have run into this before with other service people (not my Mini MA yet) but if i ever do there will be someone having a very bad day and it WILL NOT be me.

Just remember one thing "the customer is always right" until you (sevice techs) can prove them wrong. And even then "the customer is always right"

there in some cases we cannot recreat the problems. we also have lots of people that say there cars have all these problem and we cant make the problem happen. when the car is outta warranty and some like it breaks they want everything for free. are csi is affected if ur pissed off even at the service adviser. #2 is not something the techs would say. another problem is some that only happens every so often we as techs dont have all day to chase rattle or a humming sound that only happens at 63mph on a 20deree slope while the car is point north and the tires get have 33.7 psi in them. we do get some crazy claims like the check light was on for 4 days but went off on the way to the dealer but we have no fault memory and then they call us liers. so no the customer is not always right but they like to think so.

Unfortunately it is people like you that make this world difficult to live in. MY customers are always right UNTIL i can PROVE them WRONG. And guess what they are still right even then. Neither of us would have a job if it was not for the CUSTOMER. So the customer is always right or the business goes out of business.

As for #2 i have heard it from Techs at a BMW dealer and i am sure that the OP heard the same thing. So DO NOT tell me that techs don't say that. May be you will not but there are many others that will.

I agree that there are crazy claims. But again the no matter what the customer is always right, and all claims should be checked not blown off like so many dealerships do.

wrong again we never talk to the customers that the service advisers job not mine. they may say that cause they have no idea whats goin on. i dont make it difficult to live in this world i just dont have all day to chase a small sound that i cant hear. thers tons of jobs i lose money on and some jobs i refuse to put to much time into cause if i can make the problem happen how am i gonna fix it. if we wanna get paid for the work time into the job we can say "has more warranty bring it back later." thats what a serice adviser will say so u leave them alone and im not being mean but its true. the new mini r built to such poor standards that we r always running across new problems that r taking long to diag.

I hope you don't mind but I fixed a word for you only because a missed letter changed the entire meaning of your sentence.
