"Thunk" Noise

So I've noticed this weird "thunk" noise that seems to happen randomly when I'm not even moving.

It sounds like a hard tap. I'll be parked, no whirring, no grinding noise, no revving, just "thunk."

I noticed it after my first fill up. When I went to fill up, it did just that, "thunk thunk thunk" and i didn't really think anything of it. But now if I'm parked or just stopped and letting it idle, sometimes it'll do it.

Brand new 09 MC w/ almost 500 miles on it.

Anybody had this?

thunk

2008 MC. Same thing since new. I assume it's "normal", but no idea what it is. Most pronounced every time right after fillup. I will also get it sometimes when just sitting at a stoplight and hear a random "thunk".

low "thump" noises from the rear of the vehicle while idling has been deemed in other threads to be normal venting of the fuel system. these mini's need some gas-x.

I've heard a thunk noise after I've shut the engine down and sat in the car for a while. All I know is it sounds like it comes from the back. The venting sounds interesting!

BOOT MONKEY! I so want one...

Funny that you mention that cause I had a guy WAY too close to me this afternoon and I thought it would just be great to have my Boot Monkey jump out with a baseball bat and swing it around menacingly...

I've never heard that while idling, just when I shut down and sit in the car for awhile.

I've heard this too. My guess would be some materials contracting as it cools down. It's probably near the exhaust pipe(s).

This car makes alot of noises when its running and when its NOT running. If its not whirring, cluncking or thunking, its clicking or ticking.
