No engine oil change for more than 2 years?

Hello everyone,

When I got my 03 Cooper last year around this time, it said 25000km (= 15000 miles) for the next Inspection. I have driven about 10000 km/year and it says now 13000km for the next Inspection.
With this rate, I don't need to change the engine oil for more than 1 year and a couple of month. yeah.. it's synthetic but more than 2 years??? Not sure.

My big truck has also a counter thing and it counts the time as well as the distance. It was about 7500 km but suddenly changed to 30 days.

Do Minis count the days as well? or just keep driving for 1+ year, or just change the engine oil?

Mine has CVT and according to the service booklet, CVT fluid also has to be changed when the Inspection time comes. Should I reset the counter after engine oil change? or keep it going to the end and let dealers change the CVT fluid when the time comes? Ah... complicated.

Please, someone, clear this mess for me...

Thank you!!

once a year

If the car is not telling you to "Change my oil" at 12 months you should call the dealer. They will change the oil and inspect all filters and change what needs changing at no charge up to three years after new unless you bought extended maintence for up to 6 years. They will reset the computer after doing the change but next year you may need to call them again.

Do you ever check the oil level? Has it ever been low? did you add oil?

Have you ever read the owner's manual?

Oh yeah.. I check the oil level from time to time. and it was a bit low once and I filled up to the near max.
I can wait another year.. but just wondering if Minis count the time as well as distance.

My dealer states 15k miles or 1 year. Whichever comes first.

The automated system doesn't keep track of calendar time - you have to do that the old-fashioned way. One year calendar oil changes are req'd and covered if you're under a free maintenance program. Brake fluid flushes and coolant flushes are also done by calendar time.

Personally, I'd do a unscheduled oil change at halve the mileage intervals suggested by the system. At your usage rate this would be close to the calendar time interval (~10K-12K kms), so it works out about the same.

Thanks markjenn and everyone.

So.. Here's my conclusion.
1. change engine oil every year and don't reset the counter.
2. when the counter says it's time, go to dealer or change CVT fluid as well as engine oil and reset the counter.

Thanks again!!
