This mini has developed a constant growling noise both in and out of gear. All fluid levels are ok except the resevoir just to the right of the coolant resevoir. Is this the power steering resevoir? I can't find any reference in the manual.
What should I look for if this resevoir is empty?

yes. that would be your p/s resevoir. as far as i know, you must use a a specific (dealer only) fluid. i don't recall it's name. hopefully it was just underfilled to start with.
luck! bodinski

I believe that reservoir is the brake fluid reservoir. power steering is done electrically in the mini. Can someone with a bit more technical knowledge confirm this?

the mini's power steering is electro-hydraulic - meaning the pump that drives the fluid is electric, as opposed to an engine-driven mechanical pump.

is the resevoir you mention opaque (black or other dark color), round, and have a black, round cap w/ multiple spokes moulded into it? yes? then it is indeed the p/s resevoir.

the brake resevoir is semi-transparent and over behind the air filter housing.
have a nice day - bodinski

thanks bodinski! it never made sense to me that the power steering was entirely electrical, but I sure do love the little robotic whining sound the electric motor makes in parking lots
