O2 Sensor Removal

OK so I searched on this ne and came up empty.
I have to replace the O2 Sensor on my 05 Mini. The one before the cat.
Is it easier to remove it from the engine bay or from underneath. I already bought the new O2 sensor and I was looking at doing it this past weekend.
Also do I have to buy the $30 tool that it needs to take it off? Or can I get it out some other way?
Thanks for the advice in advance.

Haven't done it on the MINI, but you have three choices -
1) Get the 'split' socket
2) Unplug the sensor (or just cut the wire on the old one) and use a 22mm box wrench
3) use an open end wrench

Again, I'm not famliar with the MINI sensors, so I'm not sure if one is preferable.

Not too hard on the Mini. Just unplug it from in the engine bay (above the thermostat housing (roughly), unclip the wire from the heat shield and other clips back to the sensor, get under the car and use a 7/8" open end wrench to take out the sensor. Install in reverse order.
