I have noticed a Blueish Green thick fluid leaking out of my 2006 Cooper S with steptronic. Talked to the service department and they set up an appointment a week from now.

The fluid feels oily, is thick, but smells a bit like radiator fluid.

I drive 400 miles a week just to and from work, any thoughts about what this fluid could be and how to check/refill it before the steering goes out, or the brakes fail, or the car overheats, or tranny falls out.

Sounds like a failed thermostat causing the leak. Same symptoms with my car. Got it replaced under warrenty.
Do a search and you'll find numerous post regarding this.

 

yep, found that leak under my car today while doing my HD front lip install, will have the local dealer look at it this week, hopefuly its still under warranty, my 2006 has less than 30K miles on it

 

it should be no problem as long as its under 4yrs, thermostat housings go bad

 

yep got mine fixed at no cost to me
