another door lock problem HELP!
another door lock problem HELP!
I have read through numerous threads about the door locks not working in various different ways. I couldn't find my exact problem in any of them.
Here's the description. Something is wrong with the driver side door. Manually locking/unlocking by turning the key, works fine. However by using the key fob I can only automatically lock the driver side. It makes a noise like it should but it just does not unlock. The door lock toggle in the cabin does nothing for the driver side door, neither unlocking or locking. Thankfully it at least locks with the push of a button with the key but that's it. The passenger door works perfectly in every lock/unlock situation.
Is it a fuse that's out? Or a cable or rod that isn't in place properly? Or is it the door actuator that need to be replaced?
I took the door panel off to check to see if something was not connected properly, but maybe I missed something or was checking for the wrong things.
Maybe you can direct me to a similar thread. I'm at above 50,000 miles just a few months ago, so no warranty.

Exactly the Same Symptoms
About 4 months ago my 2004 Cooper S with 36500 miles started having the same issue. I spoke with the dealership and they stated that the actuator needs to be replaced. I did not bite the bullet yet as the actuator is $250 plus another $250 labor according to their quote. I would also appreciate any input someone might have on this issue.

Your actuator on the driver's side is gone... I am sure you've seen the "long" thread about this issue; if you haven't, here it is:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=99835
I would still contact the dealership; they may cover it under warranty. If not, try to shop around for the part. I've seen it listed 3x more than what you can get it for... I paid $96.14 for the actuator (brand new from a dealer at wholesale price) and $50 for installation at a local shop that works on MINIs. The above $500 quote is just insane!!!
Good luck!
