getting bummed

okay, so i got the cooper running again. when i took the fuel snding unit out of the tank the arm for the pick up was just dangling in the tank. so i clipped it back on and put it back together and charged the battery, and it fired right up. i let it idle for a while to charge the battery on its own before i took a drive.
so i take it out for a ride and everything is solid, full throttle i have a full 16lbs of boost, no bucking, no hickups, smooth as can be, took hard corners, no fuel cut out.
so i drive it from my house (cape coral) to gulf coast town center (about 20miles), no problems. on I75 on the ride back, cruising a 80, my car starts bucking a little, so i give it some more gas, falls on it's face. down shift, no help, decelerating fast, so i just pull off the high way. motor is off, try to start it, no go. turn key off then back on, pump not comming on, hmmmm.
my question is what happened??? my car is now back at home still the pump ill not turn on. anyy ideas? fuse? relay? ground? dont have time to check tonight. will look into it more tomorrow.

thanks,
ZMAN

Start with the fuses. I'm pretty sure the owner's manual will tell you which goes to the fuel system.

Possible blown fuse but might also be a relay messing up, or even a bad pump (again). You'll probably need the Bentley manual, a DVOM, jumper wires and a lot of patience. I'd check continuity across the fuse and then either go for the relay or supply power and ground to the (correct spots!) on the fuel pump. to see if it will kick on.

Wow that the same thing that happened to me. I thought I was the only one that had the fuel line came off of the fuel sending unit. That happened to me about 3 weeks ago but has been running since but seems to be running a bit rougher kinda like when it was before being tuned.

I have put on about 2000 miles since then.

i have power to the pump. and it turns on when i turn the key forward. but there is no fuel going to the motor. i took off the line and turned the key expecting to get a bath, but nothing came out of the sending unit. clogg maybe??? is there a way to bypass the sending unit to see if the unit is the problem??? this car is my daily driver and i havn't drove it in 10 WEEKS. partially due to my injury, but mostly cause i can't figure out what is wrong with it. im very mechanically inclined.

FIXED!!!!

it is ALWAYS something really small and almost useless....

my problem that crippled the MINI for so long was the tiny O-ring in the top of the sending unit. it had split causing the unit to not seal correctly, causeing it to suck air, and not allow the fuel to leave the tank.
kinda like having a hole in your mcdonalds straw.

so now i just need a new battery and all is well.
