BMW Technical Information System

Now that Maggie, my 06R53, is well out of warranty (24 months and 54160 miles), I am looking into doing not only my own services, such oil, but also minor repairs. Seems like I might have a thermostat housing leak.

As with anything on eBay: Caveat emptor. I've seen these BMW Technical Information System DVDs and would like to know what ya'll's experience with them are, if any. I've seen the d/l from this site and, frankly, wasn't too impressed. Either it didn't have or we couldn't find the procedures for changing the oil and oil filter. I'm not too sure if the DVD is much, if any, better.

Cheers!!

I bought the system electronics version of this and yes it did have all the information but unless you have some of there background information it was a bit over my head. (refrences a lot of system specs from other DVD's)

I have the TIS and it has been valuable to me. The TIS is the real deal -- one of the references used by service techs at MINI dealers. Think of the TIS as an electronic version of the Bentley manual (which I also have). Bentley basically took the TIS and put it into book form. Its main value is for information on assembling/disassembling the car and replacing parts. There is litlle information on diagnosing and fixing problems (same is true for the Bentley manual).

The main negative about the TIS is that the software has an awkward and unintuitive interface, and the information categories are not well organized. I often have to drill down several different paths before I find the information I'm looking for.

My summary is that it is worth getting. It is a wealth of information and has the official BMW descriptions of procedures. Considering the low price of the disc on eBay (think I got mine for under $10), I'm surprised that the TIS manual hasn't been more popular on NAM.
