Weird ticking coming from rear passenger side

I noticed today this weird ticking coming from rear passenger side in the interior. Anyone know what might be behind the interior panel to make this noise?

Not sure if you're a male or female -- but perhaps it's your biological time clock you're hearing

blackdelight,

I don't recall exactly but isn't the emergency release for the boot in the passenger side cubby in the boot? Maybe it's rattling against something? Check the well under the boot cover where the jack is/should be. Maybe something found it's way in there. It could also be the seat belt buckle tapping on something... Good luck either way!

Does this happen when the car is shut off only, or running . You are inviting funny comments if you dont give give accurate explanations.

My 04 MC has a rhythmic ticking just as you describe when the weather is cold. I was told by 2 different SA's that it is normal. It drops off when the car warms up a bit. I couldn't give you the explanations they gave me, just took their word for it that it was normal.

I'm just about to get an '09 in a few weeks, but when I test drove the car and played around with it (when the engine was off and no key was present), I noticed the ticking from the rear passenger side as well. It sounded like a bunch of relays clicking on and off.

My guess is that it's the sensors and electronics trying to determine whether or not the key was present when I pressed the "start" button and whether or not the car should engage ignition.

When my rear sunroof coverup rattles it sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger area. Try moving the rollup cover a little and see. I assume you only hear it when you're moving (you didn't say).

you guys sure that's not the just the exhaust system cooling/heating up thus expanding/contracting?

You can also get rattles from the cleats that the back seats attach to. When you fold down the seats, you'll notice that you can move them. One of mine was driving me nuts. It was fine after I repositioned it some.

It's not a rattle, it's very rhythmic, and when I asked about it I was given a quick, reasonable explanation. And it is most noticeable when the weather is cold.

I don't know exactly when it started, but recently I noticed that too.

Hopefully it'll just go away.

Its pretty annoying though.
