fixed my 02 mini's electrical issue

I just got a 02 mini... with these random electrical issues:
-all were intermittent-

no ac
no rear def
no parking lights
tps light on
hood hatch light on
no turn signal or sound (interior only)
no key fob control
sometimes wouldnt lock

As i said these were all intermittent. I spent several hours on sat and found my problem. The factory changer harness in the back has 3 wires. Ground Power and Data. The plug had gotten mashed into the floor, slightly corroded and melted. Repaired the plug (no shorting of the data wire) and viola, All BUT the fob works perfectly.

I'm posting this in the event that it could help others with similar issues. The data wire runs through out the car and talks to manny things so a problem with this wire anywhere could cause random problems.

Dead key

so what does happen with these keys? And all at the same time? We who have an 02 MINI have different keys than the later builds. I replaced the battery since the key comes apart easily. And nothing. The dealer said it might be the part behind the rear view mirror, but my rear view mirror is not one of the fancy ones that dims when cars drive behind me. It's just an ordinary mirror. So, I am counting on you folks to help me see what it is I have to replace. Thus far, it is only the key that is giving me problems.

Did your problem just start? Were there any recent repairs and it stopped working afterwards? And your right, the mirror on your car is just a mirror, not until the 05-later cars did the signal start coming through the mirror.

The key just stopped working. Period. No other work on the car. I was looking at the Bentley service manual and there's a reference to something called the FZV receiver and control unit located behind the clock. But that's all it says! Not a clue about removing it and maybe putting a new one in. I'm hoping It just pops out and can be replaced. I can do that myself -- hopefully. -- Denise
